Xàbia – Beniarrés
1. Briefing
An easy start for the first 50km from Xàbia, but things become more challenging after Villalonga, where you will tackle “Coll de la Safor,” the first and most demanding climb of the route.
After this initial challenge, you’ll enjoy a fast descent towards the village of l’Orcha, followed by a short climb leading to the Beniarrés reservoir.
At km 75, right after the reservoir, you’ll begin the second climb, taking you to the small village of Margarida. From there, you’ll ride through the serene and scenic valley of Ebo, a perfect mix of peaceful roads and good pavement.
At km 95, you’ll face the final ascent up “Port de la Vall d’Ebo,” just beyond the small town that gives its name to the valley.
2. CLimbs
❚ Km 49 ⇝ 56 ❚ This is likely one of the toughest climbs in the area. The first 3 km are brutal, with gradients reaching between 17% and 20%. You’ll get a brief respite halfway up before tackling another challenging section with steep inclines hitting 20% again.
❚ Km 74 ⇝ 81❚ The first 2 km are relatively easy. However, you’ll soon face the most challenging part: an 800-meter stretch with gradients reaching up to 19%.
❚ Km 98 ⇝ 101 ❚ A short and straightforward 3 km climb with no significant challenges. It’s one of the most popular climbs in the region, though it’s typically tackled from the opposite side, starting near the village of Pego. Make sure to enjoy the descent, as the views are absolutely stunning.
3. Traffic
You may encounter some traffic during the first 35 km, particularly between the towns of Oliva and Villalonga. However, after passing Villalonga, the roads become much quieter, and it’s possible to ride for several kilometers without seeing any cars.
4. Road Quality
The road quality is excellent for most of the route. However, the stretch leading to “Coll de la Safor” is quite narrow, and certain sections of the tarmac may show signs of wear.
