Denia – Coll de Rates
1. Briefing
Begin your ride along the nice coast, enjoying stunning views of beaches and cliffs 🌴🌞. The initial 5 kilometers offer a gentle warm-up, followed by a nice ride through Xàbia.
As you continue, tackle a second easy climb to Cap de La Nau at kilometer 15. Prepare for a more significant challenge at kilometer 20: Puig de la Llorença 🚩🚵🏽♀️, a climb that has twice featured in the final stage of La Vuelta 🏆.
After a swift descent, reach the charming town of Moraira. Continue your coastal ride towards Calpe (kilometer 60) and Altea (kilometer 70).
As you leave Altea, gradually ascend towards Callosa d’En Sarrià, where you’ll encounter the second and final challenge of the day: Coll de Rates 🚩🚵🏽♀️.
2. CLimbs
❚ Km 37 ⇝ 42 ❚ Despite its short length, this 3km climb offers a challenging test. The initial and final kilometers are the steepest, with gradients reaching 20% 🧨🧨. While the road is wide and well-maintained, expect some traffic during the ascent and descent in summer, during the winter months it’s super calm.
❚ Km 87 ⇝ 100 ❚ One of the region’s most frequented climbs, spanning 18 kilometers with an average incline of 3%. Begin your ascent after passing through the village of Callosa d’en Sarrià.
3. Traffic
Be prepared for potential traffic congestion during the initial 80 kilometers along the coast. 🚩 Exercise caution 🚩 on the national road between Calp and Altea (kilometers 65-70), as traffic can be heavy and may include some hazardous areas. Unfortunately, there are no alternative routes in this section.
Once you pass through Callosa d’en Sarrià, the traffic will significantly decrease, allowing for a more peaceful ride 👌.
4. Road Quality
The road quality is excellent throughout the entire route.
