Denia – Sa Creueta
1. Briefing
This route includes some of the region’s classic climbs: Coll de Rates, Sa Creueta, and Port de Bèrnia 💪.
The first 10 kilometers are relatively easy, followed by a short climb to the town of Llosa de Camatxo. From there, you’ll enjoy an easy ride to Parcent, where you’ll begin the ascent of Coll de Rates.
Coll de Rates is one of the region’s most renowned climbs, offering a perfect road, stunning views, and a cycling-friendly atmosphere 👌. After reaching the summit, you’ll descend quickly, with a few short climbs along the way. You’ll then arrive in Tàrbena, where you’ll begin the second climb of Sa Creueta.
Following Sa Creueta, you’ll have a long descent on a wide and well-maintained road. This will give you time to recover before tackling the third climb of the day, Port de Bèrnia, which starts in the town of Xaló.
2. CLimbs
❚ Km 22 ⇝ 28 ❚ One of the region’s most popular climbs 😎, Coll de Rates is a 6-kilometer hill with an average gradient that doesn’t exceed 6%. This is the shorter version of the climb; the longer version starts on the opposite side of the hill, in the village of Callosa d’en Sarrià.
❚ Km 36 ⇝ 41 ❚ Sa Creueta is a short 5-kilometer climb that can be considered a continuation of Coll de Rates. Starting in the town of Tàrbena, this climb presents no significant difficulties.
❚ Km 68 ⇝ 80 ❚ This scenic 12-kilometer climb connects the towns of Xaló and Benissa. The winding rural road has an average incline of 3.5% but includes steeper sections reaching up to 10%. With minimal traffic and surrounded by nature, this is one of our favorite climbs 💛.
3. Traffic
The entire route is relatively peaceful. The three climbs, particularly Sa Creueta and Port de Bèrnia, have minimal traffic.
4. Road Quality
The road quality is excellent throughout most of the route. The climb and descent from Port de Bèrnia have a few sections where the pavement may be somewhat worn 🚩.
