Denia – Beniarrés
1. Briefing
The initial 50 kilometers from Xàbia offer a gentle warm-up, setting the stage for the more challenging terrain ahead. After Villalonga, the journey intensifies with the ascent of “Coll de la Safor”, marking the circuit’s toughest climb 🚩.
Post the ascent, a swift descent leads us to the picturesque village of l’Orcha. Further on, a brief yet engaging climb precedes our approach to the stunning Beniarrés reservoir.
Around the 60-kilometer mark, following the reservoir, the route introduces a climb towards the quaint village of Margarida. Riding through the serene and well-paved roads of the Ebo valley, offering tranquility and smooth cycling.
The climax awaits at kilometer 90 with the ascent of “Port de la Vall d’Ebo”, situated right after the namesake village, promising an exhilarating challenge amidst breathtaking surroundings 🌞🚴🏽♂️.
2. CLimbs
The climb is known as one of the most demanding ascents in the province of Valencia. Initial sections are grueling, with gradients reaching 17% and even 20% in the first 3 km 💥. There’s a brief respite midway before encountering further steep inclines, again reaching up to 20%.
The initial 2 km offer a relatively manageable ascent. Following this, the climb transitions into its most challenging segment, featuring an 800 m stretch with gradients peaking at 19%.
The brief 3 km climb presents no significant challenges. Often ascended from the opposite side near Pego, this route promises a delightful descent, boasting breathtaking views along the way. Enjoy!
3. Traffic
You might encounter traffic in the initial 35 km, particularly between Oliva and Villalonga. Beyond this point, the roads become considerably quieter, offering several kilometers of car-free cycling.
4. Road Quality
The road quality remains consistently good for most of the track. However, the segment on “Coll de la Safor” tends to be narrow and may exhibit imperfect tarmac in some areas.
