Calp – Tudons
1. Briefing
The main challenge of the route is climbing Port de Tudons, one of the highest points that can be reached by road bike in the province of Alicante.
The first 10 km of the course are relatively easy, but certainly not the nicest as you’ll be riding along a national road.
Once across the village of Alfàs del Pi, you’ll slowly start to gain altitude. For those next few kilometres of calm roads past the villages of Finestrat and La Sella, you’ll come across some climbs and descents to get the legs warmed up.
At km 53 you’ll finally reach the top of Tudons where you’ll be rewarded with magnificent mountain views. After descending to the town of Benassau, you’ll start your second climb; Port de Cofrides.
2. CLimbs
Port de Tudons is one of the most frequented climbs in the region. While the first kilometres are rather easy, it does get more challenging once you cross the village of La Sella. It’s here where you hit a stretch of road with an average gradient that doesn’t drop below 6%.
The steepest sections do not exceed 12%, which means your main challenge will be to conserve your energy as best you can so you have something left for the ride back to Altea.
3. Traffic
Expect heavy traffic the first and last (5) kilometres as we ride along the national road between the towns of Calpe and Altea.
4. Road Quality
Road quality is very good throughout the whole track.
