Elevation: 1288 m
Time: 3h - 4h
Village: Calp / Calpe

1. Briefing

First, it’s a gradual climb that brings you to the town of Altea. Once out of Altea, the road slowly goes up until you reach Callosa d’en Sarria where you’ll start your ascent up Coll de Rates – the main challenge of the day.

While not as well known as its shorter version starting in Parcent (on the opposite side of the valley), Coll de Rates is one of the most frequented climbs of the region. It is also more challenging than its shorter counterpart so do beware!

Once at the top of Coll de Rates, you descend on a nicely paved road all the way down to Parcent. While descending it, you’ll be treated to the most stunning views🚵🏽‍♀️👀.

You’ll then ride through calm roads, encountering a few short climbs as you make your way to Calp.

2. CLimbs

This is the longer version of the well-known climb of Coll de Rates. A total of 18.5 km with an average gradient of 2.2%, the climb starts in the village of Callosa d’en Sarrià. The most challenging stretch kicks in after Bolulla – 13km before arriving at the top.

3. Traffic

🚩Expect heavy traffic the first kilometres🚩 as we ride along the national road (between Calp and Altea). Traffic will become less dense once we cross the town of Callosa d’en Sarrià.

4. Road Quality

Road quality is very good throughout the whole track.
