Altea – Xàbia
1. Briefing
For the initial portion of the ride, you’ll follow the coastline, treated to stunning views of Costa Blanca’s beautiful beaches and cliffs 🌞🌴. Around kilometer 26, prepare for the first notable ascent: Puig de la Llorença. This hill served as the final stage of La Vuelta twice in the last 5 years, witnessing victories by Chris Froome (2017) and Tom Dumoulin (2015) 🏆🏆.
Continuing along the Xàbia coastline, a relatively gentle climb to Cap de La Nau awaits after kilometer 43. Subsequently, the journey will transition to inland roads for the return to Calp, featuring some challenging climbs along the way.
2. CLimbs
Prepare for a short yet strenuous 3 km climb that will push your limits. The toughest parts occur at the onset and in the last stretch, boasting steep gradients of up to 20% 🔥🔥. The road is wide and impeccably kept, but as it’s in a residential area, expect some traffic during both the ascent and descent. During the winter, traffic tends to be lighter in this area.
3. Traffic
Prepare for heavy traffic during the initial kilometers as we navigate the national road. After passing through Moraira, traffic should gradually lighten.
The return journey to Altea involves biking along the national road between Calp and Altea, where heavy traffic and potentially hazardous sections are expected. Unfortunately, there’s no alternative route available in this stretch.
