Altea – Tudons
1. Briefing
The primary challenge of the circuit lies in conquering Port de Tudons, one of the highest road climbs in the Alicante province.
The initial 10 km pose no significant difficulties; however, it’s not the most picturesque road, mainly along a national road.
Altitude gain commences gradually after passing through the village of Alfàs del Pi. In the subsequent kilometers, expect intermittent climbs and descents along quieter roads.
Around km 53, you’ll reach the pinnacle of Tudons, offering magnificent vistas of the region’s mountains. Following this, descend towards the town of Penyàguila, where you’ll encounter a brief yet challenging climb, Más del Pecho (at km 51).
Before returning to Altea, you’ll tackle a third ascent: Cofrides.
2. CLimbs
Tudons stands as one of the region’s most popular climbs. The initial kilometers offer a relatively moderate ascent, but the intensity elevates notably after passing through the village of La Sella. Ahead lies a segment featuring an average gradient that won’t dip below 6%.
The steepest sections peak at 12%, requiring a consistent effort throughout the climb, while preserving some energy for the return journey to Altea.
A 1.1 km ascent boasting an average incline of 18.6%. At the onset, the initial stretch greets riders with a challenging incline of 20% 🚵🏽♀️💥. After approximately 350m, a hairpin turn provides a brief respite before encountering the climb’s second part, where gradients once again exceed 20%.
3. Traffic
Anticipate heavy traffic during the initial 10 km along the national road. However, traffic tends to lighten notably once you pass through the town of Alfàs del Pi.
4. Road Quality
The road conditions throughout the circuit offer cyclists a consistently well-maintained and enjoyable ride.
