Altea – Rates
1. Briefing
You’ll encounter the first short climb within the initial kilometers, leading to the town of Benissa. Then, navigating interior roads, you’ll face a series of short climbs before reaching the circuit’s main challenge: Coll de Rates.
The ascent commences at km 47, just after Alcalalí. Prepare to ascend one of the region’s most renowned climbs, boasting perfect roads, splendid views, and a vibrant cyclist atmosphere.
As you descend towards Altea, expect a few more minor climbs along the way. 🚵♂️🏞️
2. CLimbs
A highly favored hill in the region, this 6 km climb maintains an average gradient that never exceeds 6%. It represents the shorter version of the climb, as the longer route originates on the opposite side of the hill, in the village of Callosa d’en Sarrià.
3. Traffic
Anticipate heavy traffic in the initial and final kilometers while traveling along the national road. However, traffic tends to lighten notably once we pass through the town of Benissa.
En route to Calpe, your journey via the national road between Calp and Altea may encounter heavy traffic and a few precarious spots (regrettably, alternative routes are unavailable). Exercise caution during these segments. 🚗🚴♂️🛣️
4. Road Quality
The road quality maintains a consistently high standard throughout the entire track.
