Altea – Garga
1. Briefing
Prepare for an ascent right from the starting line, Sa Creueta marks the first climb of the circuit, and as you roll past the town of Callosa d’en Sarrià, be ready for increasing gradients.
Following Sa Creueta, you’ll traverse serene roads with a few brief climbs before confronting the second challenge: Coll de Garga. While not excessively challenging, its length demands a strategic approach—pace yourself. Once you conquer Coll de Garga, a rewarding descent awaits on an excellent road, guiding you gracefully to the town of Orba.
As you pedal back to Altea, the route unfolds toward the coast, with no significant climbs in sight. Enjoy the coastal breeze and the smooth ride home. 🚴♂️🚴♂️
2. CLimbs
As you start your climb, the road is none other than the familiar path taken by those conquering Coll de Rates. The shared journey continues until we reach the town of Tàrbena. At this point, our route takes a turn, branching off to pursue the ascent of Sa Creueta. This 18 km climb, with an average incline of 3%, begins its journey as you pass through the village of Callosa d’en Sarrià, steadily gaining altitude.
A winding 6 km stretch; this twisty ascent averages a gradient of 6.5%, throwing in sections reaching up to 8%. You’ll conquer this rural road with minimal traffic and excellent tarmac. Once you reach the summit, a pleasant surprise awaits—a charming restaurant that’s well worth a stop, at least for a well-deserved coffee. ☕🚴♂️
3. Traffic
Be prepared for heavy traffic in the initial kilometers as we navigate the national road, cyclists. However, once you cross the town of Callosa d’en Sarria, the traffic will significantly lighten.
On the return journey to Altea, we’ll be cycling through the national road between Calp and Altea. Brace yourself for potentially heavy traffic and a few tricky spots. Unfortunately, there’s no alternative road, so exercise caution as you navigate this stretch. 🚴♂️🚗🚦
4. Road Quality
The road quality remains consistently excellent throughout the entire track.
